Update: Lac du Flambeau Missing Person
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been leading the investigation into a missing person, Wayne Valliere Jr., of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa since December 29, 2017. Mr. Valliere was last seen on December 22, 2017.
On January 1, 2018, a body was recovered in Iron County and has since been positively identified as Mr. Valliere. DCI is conducting a death investigation.
Law enforcement has identified and apprehended five suspects in connection with Mr. Valliere’s death. The Iron County District Attorney is handling the prosecution of this case with the assistance of an assistant attorney general from the DOJ Criminal Litigation Unit.
This DCI-led investigation has been a collaboration between Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Forest County Sheriff’s Office, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Lac du Flambeau Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Milwaukee Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, and Wisconsin State Patrol.
Law enforcement appreciates the cooperation of and sends condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Valliere and the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
