McNeel Middle School
Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen’s visit to McNeel Middle School in Beloit
On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen met with about 200 sixth graders from McNeel Middle School in Beloit as part of The Century Council’s initiative, “Ask, Listen, Learn.” The program’s motto encourages kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking.
The Century Council developed the program, “Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix,” to educate parents and middle school-aged kids about the dangers of underage drinking. It also created an interactive, physical fitness activity to teach kids about the health consequences of underage drinking.
Having partnered with The Century Council in the past, Attorney General Van Hollen also was presented with the Council’s Leadership Award in honor of his outstanding commitment to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking.
Law Enforcement Torch Run
Law Enforcement Torch Run Kickoff Ceremony for Special Olympics Wisconsin May 23, 2012, at Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial outside of State Capitol
The Law Enforcement Torch Run takes the Flame of Hope from Madison to the Opening Ceremonies of the State Summer Games in Stevens Point that begin on June 7, 2012. The event is organized by Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Van Hollen joined other state and federal officials and members of the public for a “Ceremony of Remembrance” at the State Capitol, organized by the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. On Wednesday, September 26, 2012, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen was joined by representatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and local law enforcement to encourage Wisconsinites to participate in the national Prescription Drug “Take Back” Day, being held in communities across the state on September 29, 2012. Van Hollen, Assistant Special Agent in Charge James F. Bohn from the DEA and South District Water Leader Lloyd Eagan from the DNR briefed media on the dangers of prescription drug abuse during the news conference at the Wisconsin State Crime Lab – Milwaukee.
