"Police Angels:" Pewaukee Police Officers Nathan Wright, Brian Foth

Pewaukee Officers Nathan Wright and Brian Foth received Distinguished Service Citations at a Pewaukee Village Board meeting on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.  This is the second highest award an officer can receive in the department.

Officers Wright and Foth responded to a structure fire on September 4, 2015 at 12:57 a.m. at an eight-unit apartment building.  Both officers arrived and entered the rapidly burning building. Officers returned inside the burning structure multiple times,  kicked down a door and rescued and evacuated tenants.  One couple was trapped in a second floor apartment with no possible interior escape route available due to smoke, flames and falling drywall and other debris.  The officers directed the couple to a front bedroom window.

With no “normal” resources in sight, and because the fire department was not yet on scene, the officers devised a plan: they took one of the Ford Explorer squads and backed it up to the building under the bedroom window.  They scrambled onto the roof of the squad and directed the residents to jump from the second floor window to them on the squad roof.  The officers were able to catch and rescue both people with no injuries.  The people that were rescued also attended the Board meeting and said that the officers saved their lives and were their “police angels”.
