Asserting Wisconsin's Right To Abandoned Money
Delaware v. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin
Wisconsin, along with Pennsylvania, Texas, Arkansas and several other States have sued Delaware in the United States Supreme Court, claiming that Delaware has wrongfully taken custody of abandoned monetary instruments. Wisconsin argues that, under federal law, the abandoned instruments belong to the State in which the instrument was purchased, not, as Delaware claims, in the State of incorporation of the company that provides the instruments.
Status: The United States Supreme Court has assigned a Special Master to the case.
