UPDATE: Officer Involved Death in Menasha

MENASHA, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been investigating an officer involved death (OID) that took place in the city of Menasha, Wis. on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 25, 2019.

 

Police officers from Neenah and Menasha police departments served a search warrant regarding an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. During the investigation the subject of the investigation obtained a knife and confronted responding officers with the knife. The subject was shot by a Neenah Police Officer. Authorities performed lifesaving measures on the subject and was transported to a local hospital. The subject, 43 year-old Shawn D. Blowers of Menasha, later succumbed to injuries.

 

No other individuals were harmed or injured during the incident.

 

The involved officer, Neenah Police Investigator Christopher Gorden, has been a law enforcement officer for 11 years, and was placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

 

DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol. DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services is also providing services. All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.

 

DCI is continuing to collect evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office when the investigation concludes.
