Update: Officer Involved Death in Manitowoc County

Two Rivers, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer involved death (OID) in Two Rivers, Wis. that occurred on the morning of Sunday, December 22, 2019.

 

Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric M. Roehl was attempting to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle, driven by Forest K. Springstube, left the roadway and was involved in a single vehicle crash. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Law enforcement immediately provided medical aid to Mr. Springstube, but he died as a result of neck and internal injuries sustained from the crash.

 

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.

 

Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Roehl has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

 

DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol and DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services. All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.

 

DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Manitowoc County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.
