STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Today, Portage County Judge Thomas B. Eagon sentenced Jason P. Sypher of Stevens Point, Wis. to life in prison. In October, a jury in Portage County found Sypher guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and of hiding a corpse. In March 2017, Sypher’s wife Krista disappeared and has never been found.

“This sentence ensures that the defendant who committed this horrible crime will be incarcerated for a long time, if not for the rest of his life. Thank you to those whose work helped close this case,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul.

On one count for first-degree intentional homicide, Sypher was sentenced to life in prison and can petition for extended supervision in thirty years. Concurrently, for hiding a corpse, he was sentenced to five years initial confinement and five years extended supervision.

The evidence presented at trial established that on or about March 13, 2019, Sypher killed Krista and hid her body. The conviction was the result of a joint effort by the Plover Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Police Department, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Additional resources were provided by Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and Plover Fire Department. Victim services were provided by the Portage County Victim/Witness Program in the district attorney’s office.

The case was tried by Assistant Attorney General Annie Jay and Portage County District Attorney Louis Molepske, with assistance from Paralegal Rochelle Ederer.
