AG Schimel Files Opening Brief in Gill et al. v. Whitford
MADISON, Wis. – Today, Attorney General Brad Schimel filed the opening brief in Gill et al. v. Whitford in the Supreme Court of the United States.
“Wisconsin’s maps are entirely lawful and the Court’s recent stay brings me additional confidence in the sound legal arguments we are advancing,” said Attorney General Schimel.
The Supreme Court of the United States granted the State’s application for a stay on June 19, 2017, preventing the implementation of the three-judge panel’s ruling, which would have required the Wisconsin State Legislature to redraw district maps in the coming months.
The Court will hear arguments on October 3, 2017.
The case is being handled by the Wisconsin Solicitor General’s Office.
