AG Schimel Announces New Crime Lab Deputy Director

MADISON, Wis. – Today, Attorney General Brad Schimel appointed Jennifer Naugle to be the Deputy Director of the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory (WSCLB).


“Jen is an experienced forensic scientist who has worked in both the private and public sector,” said Attorney General Schimel. “Jen’s experience and demonstrated leadership skills are going to be a great asset to our crime lab leadership team.”


Naugle graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Naugle started her career as a DNA Analyst and Program Coordinator for the Bode Technology Group in Virginia. In 2009, Naugle joined DOJ as a Senior Forensic Scientist in the DNA Analysis Unit. She was then promoted to Forensic Scientist Supervisor in the Criminalistics Unit and most recently, since 2013, in the DNA Unit. In addition to presenting at multiple training seminars, Naugle is a member of the American Society of Crime Lab Directors (ASCLD) Advocacy Committee, ASCLD Opioid Task Force, and the Midwest Association of Forensic Scientists. Naugle is a well-respected forensic scientist whose skills have been sought out by the Lab Accreditation Board of the ASCLD and as a Quality Assurance Standards Auditor for the FBI.


Naugle resides in Fitchburg with her husband, Bart, and their two children, Chase and Cadence.


Naugle replaces Nicole Roehm who was recently appointed director of WSCLB.


The WSCLB, made up of more than 180 criminal justice professionals, operates laboratories in Milwaukee, Madison, and Wausau. The crime laboratories in Madison and Milwaukee are full service labs providing analysis in Controlled Substances, Toxicology, DNA/Serology, Latent Prints/Footwear, and Forensic Imaging. In addition, the Madison lab houses the State DNA Databank and the Milwaukee lab provides analyses in Firearms/Tool marks and Trace Chemistry. All three laboratories provide crime scene field response for local law enforcement agencies.
