MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced that on January 23, 2014, Kyle Monahan appeared before the Honorable William Johnston for sentencing for Homicide by Intoxicated Use of Vehicle, for causing the death of Rebecca Cushman. Monahan was convicted by a jury on October 8, 2013.
At the sentencing hearing, Michele Cushman, the mother of Rebecca Cushman, provided victim impact statements to the court. After hearing arguments from the state and the defense, as well as the victim impact statements, Judge Johnston sentenced Monahan to 20 years in the Wisconsin State Prison System, bifurcated as 10 years of Initial Confinement and 10 years of Extended Supervision.
Assistant Attorney General Tara Jenswold assisted Lafayette County District Attorney Katherine Findley in the prosecution of this case. The case was investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Technical Reconstruction Unit, with assistance from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Shullsburg Police Department. Victim Services were provided by the Lafayette County District Attorney’s Office.
