the wisconsin department of justice hosts weeklong training seminar for new chiefs of police

MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen today extends his congratulations to the more than 30 new leaders in local law enforcement who participated in a weeklong training seminar hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ).  Law enforcement chief executives from across Wisconsin attended this year’s program in Madison.  The training is sponsored by the DOJ’s Training and Standards Bureau and is held annually.

“Through the work of our special agents in the Division of Criminal Investigation to our Crime Lab response teams, our victim services specialists, attorneys and others at the DOJ, we ‘exist to assist’ local law enforcement,” Attorney General Van Hollen said. “This type of training is one more way in which we can help local law enforcement better serve their communities as partners in public safety.  I congratulate these new leaders on their positions.”

Leadership, budgeting, recruitment, public records, labor, community and media relations were among the topics covered.  Participants also were briefed on the state and federal resources that are available to assist local law enforcement agencies.
