The Milwaukee Crime Laboratory opened in 1975. Located on the south side of Milwaukee, it primarily serves the south-eastern corner of the state.

Laboratory Manager Bio:

Carlton Cowie was appointed as the Laboratory Manager of the Milwaukee Crime Laboratory in August 2013.


Carlton has a career of almost 30 years in Forensic Science which began in 1984.  He started as a bench chemist at the Forensic Science Centre in Trinidad and Tobago performing identifications of controlled substances as well as the isolation and identification of fire accelerants from fire debris.  As an arson scene investigator he identified the origin and cause of numerous fire scenes.   In 1989 he served as the Consultant Forensic Scientist for several Caribbean governments.  He was commended by the United States District Attorney’s office in Puerto Rico for work done in the successful prosecution of an international drug trafficking case.  In 2001 he was appointed as a Forensic Chemist at Kenosha County Division of Heath Laboratory, and in 2003 elevated to Laboratory Manager.


Carlton Cowie holds several degrees, a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad,   M.S. in Forensic Science from Strathclyde University Scotland and an MBA from the University of Phoenix, Arizona.

Carlton Cowie is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), a member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) and a member of American Forensic Quality Assurance Managers (AFQAM).
