Single Article Record Entry

The following fields are mandatory for successful entry of a single stolen article in the NCIC File. Message key, originating agency’s identifier, type, brand name, date of theft, originating agency’s case number, and either a unique manufacturer-assigned serial number, or an owner-applied number. An entry may be made with both the serial number and the owner-applied number fields filled; however, these two numbers cannot be the same. The entry will be rejected if one of the mandatory fields is left unfilled.
