Searching the Index

State Criminal history files use search parameters that are unique only to that state/file. The search criteria used may produce near hits. In Wisconsin, a soundex is used on the name but, unlike the Wanted Person File, the date of birth field is searched for an exact match on the year of birth. An absolute match is required on the sex field, but race is not used as a parameter when searching the file.
