The Department of Transportation (DOT) maintains files on Wisconsin residents and non-residents who:
• Are licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
• Have been issued a Wisconsin Driver License.
• Have been issued a Wisconsin Identification Card (ID).
• Have been convicted of a traffic offense.
• Have been denied the privilege to operate a motor vehicle.
• Are out-of-state residents convicted of mandatory violations.
• Are out-of-state residents whose privilege to operate in Wisconsin has been suspended, revoked or disqualified.
The Department also maintains computerized and manual files pertaining to the registration and ownership of most motor vehicles. Boat, snowmobile, and all terrain vehicle registration records are maintained by the Department of Natural Resources.
Accuracy by the TIME user is essential when inquiring these data files. Misspelled names, inaccurate or incomplete data from a registration plate could result in erroneous or incorrect record responses.
`While this manual section contains basic information on interpreting driver license records, it does not contain information on interpreting vehicle registration responses. For further information and/or questions, readers should contact the Department of Transportation directly, or access either the DOT or WILENET websites for updated information.
