NLETS Regional Broadcasts

NLETS has divided the country into eight regions and assigned each region a two-character code that may be used as a destination for administrative messaging.  When a region code is used the message will be directed to the state control center of each of the states within that region.  The control center will then direct the message to the proper terminals.    Requests for APBD may be sent to the regions.  It is not necessary to receive prior approval from TSCC to initiate an NLETS regional broadcast.  However, an NLETS regional broadcast to region “E1” will not generate a Wisconsin APBD when sent by an in-state agency.  A request for a statewide APBD should first be sent to TSCC.  If approved by TSCC, the chances are the regional request also meets the criteria in other NLETS states for statewide broadcast.

NLETS realizes that certain serious situations override normal policy restrictions, and the restrictions may be waived under the following conditions:

1.  The sender has information that is pertinent to a criminal investigation, is of interest to a group of states, and cannot be entered into NCIC.

2.  The sender has information regarding kidnapping, skyjacking or other serious criminal acts.  This would include messages regarding officer safety.  These messages should be kept as brief as possible.

3.  The sender has information on a wanted person that cannot be entered into NCIC but may be of interest to a group of states.
