When the search reveals a matching record or records on file, NCIC will notify both the agency entering/updating the Unidentified Person Record and the entering agency(s) for the Missing Person Record(s). In the case of multiple possible matches, up to 100 records achieving the highest score value will be sent as possible matches. The “$.M.” prefix uniquely identifies the message as a positive response to a match search of missing person and unidentified persons.
