License Plate Number Edits

The license plate number is to be entered omitting spaces, hyphens, and symbols. Ensure that all letters and numerals that are part of the plate number are included. Partial numbers are not to be entered.  If the plate number exceeds the maximum number of characters, enter the characters from left to right and in REMARKS Field include the total number.

If the plate number is unknown or incomplete do not use the words none, unknown, unk, etc., as a license plate number. License plate year may not be more than one year of license expiration.

Disregard all symbols when entering license plate. The proper entry method would be to enter the top character followed by the bottom character.  Although the license plate number, state, and the year of expiration are not mandatory fields, they are necessary for an inquiring agency to properly evaluate a hit, and thus should be filled if at all possible.
