International Messages and Information

Occasionally it may be necessary to obtain information from or provide information to other locations outside the reach of the TIME System and NLETS.  This can be accomplished through the services offered by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).  Their NCIC identifier is DCINTER00.  Interpol will relay any informational requests to the appropriate country.

There are certain restrictions and requirements that must be met before Interpol will process a request.  The case must be an active investigation and the informational request of the following types:

1.  Criminal history information

2.  Vehicle registration and driver information

3.  Full investigation leading to arrest and extradition.

4.  Locate suspects/fugitives/witnesses.

5.  Attempts to locate an individual to relay important information.  The reason for the urgency must be explained to Interpol.

6.  Trace weapons and motor vehicles abroad.

7.  Other types of legitimate criminal investigations

Each request to Interpol must contain the following:

1.  Complete descriptors

2.  Reason for the urgency

3.  Degree of urgency

4.  Name of person making the request

5.  Telephone number and working hours of the person making the request for possible follow-up contact

Each request results in a case file and an agent being assigned to assist in obtaining the necessary information.  Each request is prioritized and response time may vary.
