Always consider the surname first and the given/first name or first initial last. Disregard the first letter of the surname. Then code the name to the first, second or third letter on the to determine the file number. Disregard vowels A-E-I-O-U, the letters W and Y and consonant H in coding the name Guide.
Two letters of the same group separated by H or W are coded as one.
Names that do not contain any of the letters of the Soundex are coded as zero.
Two letters of the same group in the Code separated by A-E-I-O-U or Y are considered separately.
When two or more letters of the same group come together they are considered as one.
When the initial letter and the one following it belong to the same group, they are both disregarded.
