Change from 4 Year to 8 Year Renewal Cycle Began February 1998

To implement new 8-year cycle, some drivers are allowed to extend their license period by 4 years and the extension period ends February 2002. Either an extension sticker (valid with or without expiration date) is put on the license or an extension card is issued and must be carried to show the extension period. No need to appear at a Customer Service Center.

Prior to February 1998, expiration is 4 years beyond the next birthday after issue date. Effective February 1998, expiration is 8 years beyond the next birthday.

4-year extension issued from 02-15-98 to 02-15-02. Issued on regular class D and/or M only. All other classes/endorsements must appear at Customer Service Center to renew.
