Additional Guidelines for Boat Inquires

When an inquiry is by hull serial number, registration number, Coast Guard document number, serial number or owner-applied number, both the stolen boats and stolen parts files are checked. Thus, each descriptor in the record(s) furnished must be evaluated. It is essential to match the remaining identifying data in the record(s) with the boat in question before taking further action. If the positive response (hit) includes information in the Miscellaneous/Remarks Field indicating a boat trailer and/or boat motor was stolen along with the boat, the Vehicle File and/or the Parts File should be queried using the identifiers cross-referenced in the stolen boat record, to ascertain if the trailer and/or motor in question is still in an active stolen status.
