Terminal Maintenance

Agencies that purchase terminal hardware from CIB have the option of also purchasing a monthly terminal maintenance contract. A private corporation is under contract to perform maintenance on each TIME terminal as needed. Agencies that purchase the maintenance contract must contact TSCC to report problems and arrange for needed repairs.

Law enforcement agencies are responsible for ensuring that paper, ribbon, etc are supplied for their terminal. It is also the responsibility of the local agencies to keep the terminal exterior clean and to provide for physical security. The terminal should not be subjected to intense heat, cold or high humidity. When cleaning the exterior of the terminal, only a dry cloth can be used; do not use a damp cloth as it can cause damage to the terminal.

Damage to terminals resulting from use of non-approved supplies or equipment will be the responsibility of the subscriber agency.

NORMAL TERMINAL REPAIR IS PROVIDED AS PART OF THE SUBSCRIBER FEE. IF IT IS DETERMINED THAT TERMINAL ABUSE OR NEGLECT IS OCCURRING, IF THE DAMAGE IS CAUSED BY AN ACT OF GOD (I.E, LIGHTNING) OR IF THE AGENCY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE, AGENCIES WILL BE BILLED FOR THE FULL AMOUNT OF THE REPAIR COST INCLUDING PARTS, LABOR, AND TRAVEL CHARGES.

Normal terminal repair needs are defined as any repair resulting from natural “wear and tear” on the terminal. Any repair resulting from other than “Normal Use” will be considered the responsibility of the subscriber agency. Remember:

1.  No water, pop, coffee or other liquid should be placed on or near the terminal.

2.  No cigarettes or ashtrays should be placed on the terminal.

3.  No equipment may be added to the components (screen, pedestal or printer) without prior approval of the Crime Information Bureau.

4.  No equipment is to be removed from the terminal or changed without prior approval of the Crime Information Bureau.

5.  Any repair service resulting from other than “normal” terminal usage will be billed to the terminal agency.

6.  Equipment damaged by untrained operators will result in service charges to the agency.

7.  Proper procedures must be followed when using auxiliary power sources.

8.  Do not attempt to make terminal repairs, contact TSCC.
