Message Recall Procedures

The Crime Information Bureau has a recall procedure known as “Off-Line Search”. This procedure gives an administrator the ability to request historic transactions that were sent on the TIME System. If a message was successfully transmitted it will have a CIB constructed header. When a header is present in the message the transaction will be available for recall.

Messages are stored on the average for a minimum of one year, however messages may be stored for a longer period depending on the availability of storage space on the CIB systems. Administrators attempting to use this procedure are requested by the Crime Information Bureau to generate their requests as soon as possible after the need arises.

The Crime Information Bureau will initiate an off-line search at no cost to the requesting agency if the following conditions are met:

1.  The request is made by an administrator or ranking officer of the department,

2.  The request states the reason(s) for the recall and what type of messages being recalled; i.e., messages sent by a particular terminal, received by a terminal, type of message key or type of message, etc., and

3.  The request states the time the transaction was sent/received or the period of time the transaction took place.

The Crime Information Bureau’s Control Center will forward the request to the proper staff. If additional information is necessary contact will be made with the requesting agency.

The preferred form for requesting such a recall follows. This form is also available on the CIB website.
