Obtaining Fingerprint Impressions

Quality Control

After taking the fingerprint impressions, there is always the question of whether the card meets the requirements of CIB and/or FBI. This quality control system has been devised in order that the card may be checked for possible discrepancies:

1.  Is there an impression in each block?

2.  Are there four impressions and a thumb impression in the plain impression block?

3.  If the impression is a loop, is the core and delta present?

4.  If the pattern is a whorl, are both deltas present?

5.  Are the impressions uniform in tone and not too dark or too light?

6.  Are the impressions clear and distinct?

7.  Is the name correct and shown in proper order:  last name, first name and middle name?

8.  If the subject has an alias (nickname), enter it under "alias".

9.  Is the subject's description filled in?

10. Is the subject's date of birth (DOB) noted?

11. Is the subject's address properly noted?

12. Is your agency's name, address and the reason for fingerprinting this subject filled in?

13. Is the signature of the person taking the impressions in the correct section?

14. Is the date the impressions were taken noted?

This quality control system will decrease the percentage of fingerprint cards rejected by the CIB and FBI.
