The appropriate two-letter identifying code must precede the number and is separated from the number by a hyphen (-). Any alphabetic character(s) which is part of the number is to be included, except as noted in the following.
U.S. military services are now using Social Security numbers to identify military personnel. This use applies to active duty, reserve and retired service personnel. This number should be entered in both the Miscellaneous Number and Social Security Number fields. If a member of the Army National Guard has a social security number of 420-19-0210, it should be entered at 420190210 in the Social Security field and as AS-410190210 in the Miscellaneous Number field.
