ATN is a unique identifier linking arrest, prosecution, and court disposition data. The ATN is unique for each person/arrest. ATN is a variable-length numeric identifier which can only be generated by a computer algorithm. It can be as small as six (6) digits and as large as fourteen (14) digits. ATN contains a four (4) digit agency identifier, a local sequence number which can be from one (1) to nine (9) digits, and a check digit. (See ATN Technical Document 20-TS/ATN-96.032)
Agencies submitting fingerprints electronically have the ATN generated by the card scan or live scan device. Those agencies submitting ink and roll fingerprint cards by mail should obtain and use the ATN generation software provided by CIB.
