Milwaukee Man Sentenced to 11 Years for Attempted Armed Robbery

MILWAUKEE - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced that on November 11, 2009, Jessie L. Warren of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 11 years of confinement for attempting to rob a Milwaukee restaurant while armed with a knife.
Warren admitted during his guilty plea that on February 19, 2009, he attempted to obtain money from a cashier at the Real Chili restaurant at 419 East Wells Street in Milwaukee. Warren ordered the cashier to give him money and threatened to kill him. Warren also told the cashier he had a gun. When Warren and the cashier began struggling over the cash register, Warren produced a small knife and attempted to stab the cashier in the hand. Warren then fled without obtaining money.
Warren has been convicted of 7 felonies, including Robbery in 1998 and Attempted Armed Robbery in 2007. He was on probation for the latter offense at the time of the attempted armed robbery in this case. Warren must serve the first 6 years of his sentence as initial confinement in the Wisconsin prison system, consecutive to a 2-year revocation sentence from his 2007 case. He must then serve 5 years of extended supervision.
Attorneys for the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) have been acting as special prosecutors for Milwaukee County in this case. Assistant Attorney General David W. Maas represented the state.
