Wisconsin Department of Justice Trains State Prosecutors

Elder Abuse Prosecution, Financial Fraud, Prosecuting Domestic Abuse Among Topics to be Addressed 

ELKHART LAKE - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen will host another of the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Statewide Prosecutor Education and Training (SPET) Programs beginning tomorrow and ending Friday in Elkhart Lake. The specialized training provides prosecutors and law enforcement officers from around the state with the latest knowledge and skills necessary to effectively and aggressively investigate and prosecute the various types of complex cases they face on a daily basis. 

"My commitment and assistance to district attorneys goes beyond the courtroom to include the classroom," said Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. "This specialized training provides prosecutors new and better tools with which to fight crime and better serve their communities." 

Topics to be addressed include:

  • Prosecuting the Drug Impaired Driver
  • Financial Fraud
  • DNA Basics
  • Building a Domestic Abuse Case for Prosecutors
  • ACT 28: Sentence Reforms
  • Overview of the Wisconsin Prosecutors' Sexual Assault Resource Manual
  • It's Juvenile CourtNot Kiddie Court
  • Revolutionary Times A Look at How New Cases Have Changed Old Doctrines
  • Things You Don't Learn in Law School
  • Victims' Rights Compliance in WI: The Crime Victims' Rights Board
  • Legislative & Case Law Updates 

"Assisting Wisconsin's prosecutors is a constant theme in the Department's work and my commitment to public safety and crime fighting," said Van Hollen. "We do best what we do together. Prosecutors commitment to learn and the Department's determination to help is a good combination."
