PLEA ENTERED IN MILWAUKEE COUNTY
IDENTITY THEFT CASE
MILWAUKEE - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced that on October 1 2009, Brandon A. Gipson of Milwaukee, appeared before Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge David Hansher and entered a plea of guilty to four counts of unauthorized use of an individual's personal identifying information, in court case number 2009-CF-1259. A fifth count of unauthorized use of an individual's personal identifying information was dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for October 30th when Mr. Gipson will face a maximum of 24 years in prison and a fine of not more than $40,000.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the State, Gipson was involved in a series of identity thefts throughout 2008. The complaint details how Gipson electronically filled out change of address forms to forward victims' mail in order to intercept mail intended for the victims. The complaint further alleges Gipson used credit cards in the name of the victims to purchase goods and services.
Assistant Attorney General Nelle R. Rohlich prosecuted the case for the State of Wisconsin.
