WISCONSIN INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN TASK FORCE AFFILIATE VIROQUA POLICE DEPARTMENT MAKES SECOND INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN ARREST

Steven M. Wickert of Green Bay Arrested

VIROQUA - The Viroqua Police Department, a new affiliate of the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, recently completed its second Internet Crimes Against Children investigation that has led to the arrest of Steven M. Wickert of Green Bay.

Mr. Wickert has been charged with two counts of Attempting to Cause a Child to View Sexual Activity, As a Repeater, a class "H" felony punishable by a maximum penalty of 3 years of imprisonment and a $5,000 fine. And, because the defendant is a repeat offender, the maximum term of imprisonment for the underlying crime may be increased by not more than 4 years.

Mr. Wickert has also been charged with eight counts of Attempting to Expose a Child to Harmful Material, Descriptions or Narrations, As a Repeater, a class "A" misdemeanor punishable by a maximum penalty of 9 months of imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. And, because the defendant is a repeat offender, the maximum term of imprisonment for the underlying crime may be increased to not more than 2 years.

Wickert is still being held at the Brown County Jail, awaiting a probation revocation hearing scheduled for January.

The Brown County Sheriff's Department assisted with the search warrant. The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation assisted with the computer preview and is continuing to assist with the computer forensics.

A defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence. The prosecution must prove its allegations at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.
